How do I complete the trust and estate return?

Question:

The probate value for my late mother's house was valued by the valuation office agency at £550,000 and the final sale value was £580,000. I paid inheritance tax and also capital gains tax. What do I enter in Columns E, H & G on page TC1 of the Trust and Estate Capital Gains tax return supplementary pages (SA905)?

Arthur Weller replies

In box E, you enter £580,000 – for sale proceeds; in box H, you enter £25,000 - for capital gain, and you leave box G blank because there are no reliefs to be claimed.
