Do we pay tax in both countries or just one?

Question:

We have two properties in Ireland and we would like to start a property business. Do we need to pay tax both in Ireland and UK, and is it more beneficial being a property business than being a lone landlord?

Arthur Weller replies:

If you're UK resident and have rental income from Ireland, you will be subject to tax in Ireland and in the UK. However, if you do things correctly, you should get double tax relief in the UK. I would like to answer your other question, but I do not know what you mean by a property business, as opposed to a lone landlord.
